The Boulder County Fire Department serves the city's main fire service and first response emergency medical service.

Canton, like all other municipalities in Boulder County, has no local government, instead it is directly managed by the Governor of Colorado and the Colorado State Assembly.

The Boulder Federal Building, the regional offices for the Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is also located in Canton.
