The United States Military (USM) are the military forces of the United States. The military currently consists of two service branches: the Army and the Navy. The military formerly included the Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard as well. The president of the United States is the commander-in-chief of the military and forms military policy with the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), both federal executive departments, acting as the principal organs by which military policy is carried out.
