Career
Artist was first elected to the Senate in November 2020, serving in parallel as a part-time attorney within the Office of the Federal Public Defender, later rising to the position of Deputy Chief Public Defender. He became President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate in December 2020, a position he held at several intervals between then and 2023.
