Boulder County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado of the United States. The county seat is the city of Dentsville, while the most populous settlement in the county is the city of Canton, which also serves as the capital of Colorado.

Government and public services

Law enforcement

Because Boulder County is such a prominent city within Colorado, many law enforcement agencies on all levels of government have jurisdiction in within County and its constituent cities.

Local and county law enforcement

Law enforcement within Boulder County is maintained principally by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, which serves as the main law enforcement agency within the County, providing law enforcement to all three cities. The cities of Dentsville and Canton, due to their large population, also maintain independent police departments.

State law enforcement

Law enforcement operated by the Colorado government within Boulder County includes the Colorado State Patrol, which is based out of the barracks located near Meadow Mountain and has jurisdiction over Boulder County, as well as the Colorado Parks Service which operates out of the park ranger station at Boulder State Park.

Federal law enforcement

The Black Lives Matter Federal Building in the city of Canton houses several agencies of the United States Federal Government, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Secret Service, which often cooperate state and local law enforcement but operates with less of a direct role than in Washington D.C..

Transportation

The Boulder County Transit Service regulates the operation of all bus and rail lines within Boulder County. It is overseen by the United States Department of Transportation.
